Papermerge

Papermerge is an open-source document management system purpose-built for scanned archives, extracting searchable text from PDFs, TIFFs, JPEGs, and PNGs via Tesseract OCR and presenting them through a dual-panel interface reminiscent of a desktop file manager. It supports hierarchical folders, color-coded tags, document versioning that preserves every prior revision, and custom metadata fields for tracking details like invoice amounts or issue dates. Built on Django and licensed under Apache 2.0, it is designed for long-term, self-hosted digital archiving rather than active document editing.
