Picocrypt
A featherweight, audited encryption tool for people who just want their files locked down
Picocrypt is a minimalist, open-source file encryption tool that pairs the XChaCha20 cipher with Argon2id key derivation to deliver strong, modern cryptography in an application only a few megabytes in size. Its drag-and-drop interface requires no installation or admin privileges, and advanced options include a Paranoid mode that layers Serpent encryption atop XChaCha20, Reed-Solomon error correction for long-term archival integrity, and deniability features to hide the presence of encrypted volumes. The original project underwent an independent security audit by Radically Open Security in 2024 and has since been archived by its creator in a stable, read-only state; an unaffiliated community fork called Picocrypt NG has since emerged to continue active development.
