PrestaShop is an open-source e-commerce platform written in PHP on the Symfony framework, built by a global community that has maintained the project since its first release in 2007. Merchants get a fully responsive storefront and back office out of the box, along with built-in support for major payment gateways, multi-language and multi-currency storefronts, and an extensive marketplace of themes and modules for extending checkout, shipping, and marketing functionality. Version 9, released in 2025, modernized the stack with Symfony 6, PHP 8.1+, Bootstrap 5, and a new Admin API for structured integrations. Distributed under a mix of the Academic Free License and Open Software License, both OSI-approved, PrestaShop remains one of the most widely deployed open-source storefronts in Europe and Latin America, powering hundreds of thousands of live shops.
